Install Chinese language for non-Unicode programs without Window XP Professional CD

My PC is running on a Window XP SP2 OS. I have previously installed East Asian languages files. Everything was working perfectly fine EXCEPT that I wasn’t able to read Chinese characters on non-Unicode program. In my case, it is a China-based online streaming TV called PPStream. I was quite puzzled at first until I found a solution from the Internet. Here it is.

Go to Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Under “Advanced” tab > Select “Chinese(PRC) for non-Unicode programs”.

image

Click “OK” and you’ll get the following popup.

image

Here starts my problem – I don’t have the CD! It is not a worry that mine is not a genuine copy, but my CD was broken into few pieces some time back in 2007. Probably someone (could be me!) sat on it. So what am I gonna do? No worries, click “OK” even without the CD and you’ll get another popup.

image

Click on “Browse…” and you’ll be asked to locate file. Look up for “C:\WINDOWS\Fonts” > search for file named “app936.fon” i.e. a unique font code for Chinese(PRC) > Click “Open” > Click “OK” > Wait and reboot your system.

Now it works! Not only programs but files too! :)

Leaven

Then Jesus charged them, saying, “Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.” (Mark 8:15)

On one extreme is tradition, on the other is Hedonism or liberalism. On one hand is the law of God, on the other is the liberty of conscience.

It is not easy to distinguish, but we must not caught in either extreme.

A little leaven leavens the whole lump, “therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us. Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth” (1 Cor. 5:6-8). Yea, of our hearts and our minds. “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth” (John 4:24).

Meet Barnes & Noble Nook

"Back in July, Barnes & Noble made it clear that it, too, had designs on the developing e-book market, as it launched an e-book store and released reading software for a variety of platforms, from traditional PCs to the iPhone. Today, the company is releasing its dedicated e-book reader, called the Nook, at an event in New York City. The device has many features that distinguish it from its competitors, including a small color touchscreen for control, the use of the Android operating system, all at a $259 price." - John Timmer,arstechnica.com.

More on Barnes and Noble's site. But I'll still prefer reading on a >=3.5" htc phone!:D

The Holy War by John Bunyan

If you are fond of Bunyan's famous Christian allegory named The Pilgrim's Progress, I'm pretty sure you will like this too. Thankful that I manage to get it free online, yea still being a student for at least one more month or so:p I have only a quick glance into this book in our church bookshop some time ago, not sure if it will be a light reading, but I'm sure to enjoy myself into Bunyan's another Christian allegory (or was it one? I will find out after reading it. ) So here it is, my reading for the coming week!

The
made by Shaddai upon Diabolus, for the Regaining
the Metropolis of the World;

O R,

The losing and taking
again of the Town of Man-soul.

A.W.Pink Profiting from the Word

For this month's reading, this is one of my favourites that I would love to recommend to you readers.

I read this book late last year. It is only about 124 pp., quite a thin book, but I especially fond of the 'paperback smell' while reading through its yellowish pages. Hah, I can still remember I was holding this book in a picture by the riverside :D

So what can I say about this book?

The author maintained a balance between the Word of God and different themes which are fundamental to Christian experience and happiness i.e. sin, God, Christ, prayer, good works, obedience, the world, the promises, joy, and love.

Published by The Banner of Truth Trust, A. W. Pink is the author. He lived till 1952, considered contemporary, he was also recognized as one of the finest Christian writers of the twentieth century. His faithful writings have not become more generally known and valued until much later after his death. On the publishers' preface, it states that this series which was first published in Studies in the Scriptures "reveals the devotion to Scripture and the searching experimental note which are characteristic of Pink at his best".

Christians today seem to live more complacently and carelessly than christians of old, albeit worshipping the same God and having the same Bible. What could be the reason? It is time that we should sober up, and be serious, to be profited from the treasures God has preserved for us in the spring of His divine Word.

Why not you start reading it for yourself? :) Please click here for online reading.

"We are told in 2 Timothy 3:16-17 that "All Scripture is profitable...", but how much do we gain from our reading of Scripture, and by what means can we learn to profit more?"

Do not make peace with sin

Sin is what broke your peace with God in the first place; so now let your peace with Him begin a war with sin that will never end. Surely you cannot forget the inestimable damage you have suffered because of it. In fact, every moment you enjoy God's sweet love should be a catalyst to keep revenge burning in your heart against that cursed enemy who separated you from Him for so long.

Now that God has, I hope, won your heart by His pardoning mercy, you have been brought to love Him dearly because He loved you first. How then can you possibly watch patiently as lust bursts from its trench -- your heart -- and openly defies your Father and His grace in you? Is your spirit not greatly disturbed to see pride and unbelief mocking God from under the roof of your own soul?

Christian, there is only one way to stop the invasion of sin. To steel your heart against all compromise with evil you must carry the Saviour's blood into the battle with your hand of faith. Just as the sight of Caesar's bloody clothing held up by Antony angered Roman citizens against his murderers, meditation on Christ's wounds will enrage your heart against lust.

Remember how sin murdered the precious Lord of glory, laid Him in an obscure grave, and sealed it with a curse which we sinners deserved -- a seal stronger than anything man could devise. It could never have been broken by any power less than Christ's own almighty arm!

Alexander's military victories could not compare with his daring feat of avenging the death of Philip, his father. As soon as he came to the throne he killed the murderers upon his father's tomb! In the same way, you should never rest until you have triumphed over every drop of lust which shed our Saviour's blood. Until you do this you continue to consent to the same cruelty which was spent on His gentle life. This, then, is the 'honor' which 'his saints' shall have -- God has put the two-edged sword into our hands to execute vengeance on sin.

(William Gurnall's The Christian in Complete Armour vol. 2, "The seventh consideration: the Christian's Spiritual Shoe -- Exhortation to those who already have peace with God")

And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace (Eph. 6:15).

The washing of water with the word

..., as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. (Eph. 5:26-27)

If your body needs a shower (or more) everyday, what more your soul, the washing of water with the word? Doesn't it call us to read our Bible and meditate on the Word of God daily? This is the means Christ sanctifies his church (so also individual believers who made up the church) -- with the Word -- what manner or attitude ought we have?

Therefore, gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. (1 Pet. 1:13)

Be serious. Be inquisitive. Be diligent.

Still, there is Grace in the parched land

Though the fig tree should not blossom,
   nor fruit be on the vines,
the produce of the olive fail,
   and the fields yield no food,
the flock be cut off from the fold
   and there be no herd in the stalls,
yet I will rejoice in the LORD;
   I will take joy in the God of my salvation.
God, the Lord, is my strength;
   He makes my feet like the deer's;
   He makes me tread on my high places. (Habakkuk 3:17-19)

***

Though he slay me, yet will I trust in Him. (Job 13:15)

***

I remember the days of old;
   I meditate on all that you have done;
   I ponder the work of your hands.
I stretch out my hands to you;
   my soul thirsts for you like a parched land. Selah (Psalm143:5-6)

***

Attempts of words must cease, words fail to appraise for the supernatural work of the Holy Spirit in a believer -- faith enduring is Grace bestowing... Soli Deo Gloria.

Psalm 73:21-28

When my soul was embittered,
   when I was pricked in heart,
I was brutish and ignorant,
   I was like a beast toward you.

Nevertheless, I am continually with you;
   you hold my right hand.
You guide me with your counsel,
   and afterward you will receive me to glory.
Whom have I in heaven but you?
   And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you.
My flesh and my heart may fail,
   but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

For behold, those who are far from You shall perish;
   you put an end to everyone who is unfaithful to you.
But for me it is good to be near God;
   I have made the Lord GOD my refuge,
   that I may tell of all your works.

When we see the bitterness for the ugly sin as it is, resolves instead to draw near to God and to make known all the wondrous deeds of God. In concert with all who truly know God, let us walk in submission to Him, we will possess so much more... Thank God, He has tempered His judgments with His mercies and has compassion on the sin-sicked souls.
